November 30, 2005 Salmon poachers at work at Walnut
Creek in Concord jut before the Highway 242 overcrossing. A concrete drop
structure designed to slow the flow of water prevents fish from moving upstream
in all but the heaviest flows. These poachers wanted the egg sacks for use
in sturgeon fishing and so snagged a dozen or so salmon in the 12 pound, 30
inch range. A California Department of Fish and Game warden was notified by
numerous callers but apparantly did not respond.
